ENTERPRISE & SUSTAINABILITY

OVERVIEW

In accordance with the key aims of this Strategic Priority in our Strategic Plan 2020-2022 we will build a financial approach that makes us sustainable and able to invest to do more for the people we serve.

WE WILL BE ENTREPENURIAL IN OUR APPROACH TO RAISING FUNDS TO SUPPORT OUR SERVICE DELIVERY AND:

  • Build a financial approach that makes us sustainable and able to invest to do more for the people we serve.
  • Be entrepreneurial in our approach to raising funds to support our service delivery.
  • Ensure that we have a sustainable financial base to support and sustain our mission.
  • Create an innovative social, retail, and commercial strategy which promotes environmental sustainability and strengthens income generation to support our mission.
  • Develop a united and innovative fundraising culture that generates significant revenue to support our mission.

The Society has undertaken a range of entrepreneurial activities focusing on improving our financial sustainability and ensuring we can continue our services supporting people experiencing poverty and disadvantage. These commercial operations generated just under $100 million in revenue in 2019/20.

Our most notable activities are our 227 Vinnies Shops across the state, the Container Deposit Scheme, our Export and Recycling businesses, and a diverse fundraising portfolio.

The vast quantities of donated goods that are sold through Vinnies Shops would have found their way to landfill if we had not offered a way for them to be recycled for a second life through our retail network.

In addition, millions of deposit-paid beverage containers are also being diverted from the waste stream through the voluntary efforts of consumers who are diverting their refund money to charities, including the Society.
